EARTH   (PRE - BLACK SABBATH)

      Zella Records, Birmingham, England
??-??-69                When I Came Down

1CD (FLAC) SB VG- to EX-

In audio CD format, this is a 1CD show. Sadly, it is a little over 17 minutes long is all. This release is a collection of samples and studio sessions played by the Pre - Black Sabbath band called "Earth". The last track, "Thomas Jam (With Jim Simpson)" has a Trumpet believe it or not. Toward the end of this song we get to hear an early version of a Sabbath song. I cannot recal which one, even though I should be able to. I think it's N.I.B., but I won't swear to it.

            THE TRACKS ARE

(1) Unknown Demo VG-
(2) Early One Morning (Live) VG+
(3) The Rebel (Sample) VG
(4) When I Came Down (Sample) EX-
(5)(5) Thomas Jam (With Jim Simpson) EX-

BLACK SABBATH TOUR

Audimax Der Freien Universitat - Henry-Ford-Bau, West Berlin, Germany
6-26-70  Return To 1969

1CD AD VG+

This show was taken from an LP at some point, and barely gets my VG+ rating. There are a couple of rough spots.

L'Olympia (The Olympia Theater), Paris, France
7-1-70       Unknown Title

1CD NI AD EX-

This was derived from 2 shows. Tracks 1-4 are hopefully the ones that are from 7-1-70. Tracks 5-8 I don't have any information on, other than I rate them AD VG.

PARANOID TOUR

      Fillmore West, San Francisco, California
11-21-70    Unknown Title

2CD NI AD VG+

"War Pigs" was played this night as a pre-release. This CD is from 2 seperate performances and could be from either 11-19, 11-20 or 11-21, but the only known recorded date I could find was for 11-21-70.

L'Olympia (The Olympia Theater), Paris, France
12-20-70  Copper

1CD SB EX

From track 5, the rest of the songs sound like they are from a different show. Ozzy forgets the words to "Hand Of Doom" and ends up improvising them. The track list on the inserts are slightly different than what is on the CD itself. The last 2 tracks are switched.

L'Olympia (The Olympia Theater), Paris, France & Beat Club, Breman, Germany
12-12-70 mostly + 1971-72  Veil Of Doom

1CD FM & SB VG+ & EX-

Tracks 1-4 are from the "Beat Club" in Breman, Germany, 1971-72 and tracks 5-12 are from a radio show brought to you by the "BBC" called "Sound Of The Seventies" recorded in Paris, France on 12-12-70. Tracks 1-4 are SB EX- and tracks 5-12 are FM VG+.

MASTER OF REALITY TOUR

Borough Of York Stadium (Stanley Park), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
7-18-71       Wicked Sabbath

1CD (UI) AD VG+

This show just barely gets my VG+ rating if it deserves it at all. Most of track one and from 4:42 to the end at 6:17 on track 9 (which is also the end of the CD) has significant tape static. Track 4 between 7:01 and 7:10, there are about 20 digital clicks. Track 9 has 5 non back to back spots where there is a quick zap with less than a second of music missing each time.

Gaelic Park, Bronx - Riverdale, New York
7-28-71    Unknown Title

1CD NI AD VG

"Sweet Leaf" is a Pre-release Live version. Track 6, 5:32, there is a quick zap, then immediately after that there is less than a seconds worth of music is missing.

      Auditorium Theatre, Chicago, Illinois
8-12-71  No Title

1CD NI AD VG

This show was recorded too high, thus we get fuzzy distortion. There is rough editing between a few of the tracks. Track 3 at 00:59, there is a quick spot of missing music that lasts well under a second. Track 3 from 2:38 - 2:44 there is an odd scratchy sound, and at 2:44 there is an editing of the music with no gap.

Stadthalle ('48 Hours Festival'), Wien (Vienna), Austria
9-5-71       Unknown Title

1CD NI AD VG+

This show is a semi low VG+.

      Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, Arizona
10-17-71   Unknown Title

1CD NI AD VG

      Winterland, San Francisco, California
3-10-72    San Francisco

1CD (UI) AD VG

This show was taken from an LP at some point, because there are some ticks throughout. I believe that some of these are LP tracking errors since track 8 at 3:34 the music cuts out for less than a second. Track 9 has a few more bleep out like skips and again on track 10 at 00:20. Track 12 around 3:30 it sounds like the styli was manually moved like they do for those scratch records. This happens again on track 13 around 7:10. This show was recorded ever so slightly too high for the high end.

VOLUME 4 TOUR

(Ngaruawahia Music Fest - Waikato River), Ngaruawahia, New Zealand
1-7-73  Changes

1CD AD VG

There are a few LP sounding type of pops. Especially on track 4 "War Pigs".

SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH TOUR

      Unknown
??-??-74        Unknown Title

1CD NI SB or FM EX

This release contains 2 shows. I rate all the tracks a low EX. The second show has what I believe are the original lyrics for "War Pigs", which was called "Walpurgis" prior to it being officially released. Prior to the song "War Pigs" being released, the lyrics were greatly different. Track 7 at 00:38, the last couple of frames of music are repeated for about 1 1/2 seconds.

      International Amphitheatre, Chicago, Illinois
2-11-74    Love In Chicago

1CD AD VG-

There is a quick zap on track 1 at 00:20.

Ontario Motor Speedway (Cal Jam I), Ontario, California

SABOTAGE TOUR

      Baltimore Civic Center, Baltimore, Maryland
8-2-75           Symptom Of The Paranoid

2CD AD VG

CD2, track 10, which is the last track, at 7:08 goes from lead guitar solo to the last 30 seconds of the song it started with, and sounds like it may be from a different show. This show contains 3 bonus tracks. The first 2 are live at the Legion Arena or Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 9-78-75 and I rate them AD VG. The third is from "BBC Midlands TV" on 1-6-78 and I rate it VG. The last track is a Sabbath song from "Never Say Die" called "Junior's Eye", but has David Walker on lead vocals. He filled in briefly while Ozzy had quit the band for the first time. This song wasn't released until 9-28-78 in the USA.

Asbury Park Convention Hall, Asbury Park, New Jersey
8-5-75  Live In '75

2CD FM EX

This is the KBFH FM radio broadcast show which was never commercially available as the complete show, but this is complete. There are 3 bonus tracks that may or may not be rehearsels. It sounds to me like they were warming up with a jam session consisting of the 3 tracks here. There aren't any vocals. I rate them SB VG-. The first bonus track is 14:12. The second is 16:15, and the third is 12:05.

Asbury Park Convention Hall, Asbury Park, New Jersey & Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
8-5-75 & 9-12-78  War Pigs In Pennsylvania

1CD FM VG+

The inserts have the 8-5-75 show as being at the Spectrum, Philadephia, Pennsylvannia, but this is incorrect. Tracks 6-12 are from the Civic Arena, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania show on 9-2-78. Track 7 has a quick zap around 5:00. Track 13, "Paranoid", is also from the Civic Arena on 9-2-78, but it doesn't sound as good, so I rate it SB G. The reason for this is because it has a dirty LP type of sound that deteriorates into a sound more that of digital clicking. This is the final track and it lasts 3:11.

      Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, Texas
8-22-75  Electric Sabbath

1CD AD VG

"Hole In The Sky" was played as a pre-release song. CD1, track 7 at 9:45, there is a fraction of a second gap, and a 1 second gap later in the same song. There are about 10 spots during the Drum Solo in which there is some kind of really quick buzz that sounds like the recording level was too high, but I doubt that to be the case.

      Colston Hall, Bristol, England
10-12-75  Pieces Of Extasy

2CD AD VG

My copy is missing the Interview of Tony Iommi by Dave Lawrence on 7-13-95. There is a quick zap on CD1, track 8 at 11:55. There is an odd sound change on CD1, track 11, "Iron Man". There are a couple of spots where the sound cuts out for well under a second as well as one that lasts a couple of seconds and has a couple of digital clicks.

TECHNICAL EXTASY TOUR

Madison Square Garden, New York/Manhattan, New York
12-6-76      Rock 'N' Roll Gypsy

2CD AD VG

There is some clipping at high end.

      Olympen, Lund, Sweden
4-21-77       Killing Yourself To Die

1CD AD EX-

This show at some point was taken from an LP since there is the crackle of a dirty LP. Track 7, the Guitar Solo has dirty LP sounding parts and/or digital clicking. It was too hard to tell. Track 8 until almost 4:00 has diginoise. This show was also recorded a little too high, but this isn't present that often.

NEVER SAY DIE TOUR

      Hammersmith Odeon (Hammy-O), London/Hammersmith, England
6-19-78                Welcome To The Electric Funeral

1CD X SB VG+

This show is very close to an EX-.

6-19-78           Never Say Die, Hammersmith

1CD SB EX-

      Selland Arena, Fresno, California
9-22-78    Always Say Die

2CD NI AD EX-

The song "Never Say Die" was done this night as a pre-release live version one week before the album "Never Say Die" was released.

9-22-78  Fresno 1978

2CD AD VG+

This show could have gotten an EX-, but Ozzy is a little tinny for me to go that high. There are 2 pre-release live tracks which are, "Never Say Die" and "Shock Waves". CD2 for a couple of tracks sounds slow, but it seems like it's mostly Ozzy.

Taylor County Expo Center, Abilene, Texas
12-7-78                Abilene, Texas   December 7th, 1978

1CD SB VG+

This shows starts part way into "Symtom Of The Universe". The right channel drops out for about 15 seconds during track 2.

HEAVEN AND HELL TOUR

Seattle High School (Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium), Seattle, Washington
7-19-80    Dance Of The Devil

1CD AD VG

      Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, Connecticut
8-10-80          Heaven And Hell In Hartford

2CD AD EX-

CD2, track 1 at 7:52, there is a quick zap sound. CD2, track 5 at 2:52 - 2:54 there are 4 ticks in the right speaker, and a couple more toward the end of the song. There are a couple more ticks in other spots on the CD with track 6 having about a dozen very light ones.

War Memorial Coliseum, Rochester, New York
10-16-80  Unknown Title

2CD NI AD VG+

This show is a high VG+ and could go by the title "Heavenly Hell", for which I have artwork. It could also be "War Memorial, Black And Blue On Tour", for which I do not have artwork. The source for these shows is missing "Sweet Leaf" and "Vinny Appice's Drum Solo". "Children Of The Sea" and "Paranoid" start during the first verse. CD2, track 1, "Heaven And Hell" at 8:44, the previous few seconds are started over on the CD and not by the band. CD2, track 3, at 00:16, there is CD freezing like the CD Player was having trouble tracking. If you fast forward to about 4:30 this goes away. Same CD, track 4 at 00:54, tracking problems occur again, and then digital clicking, then more track freezing problems. I stopped listening to the show at this point with 3 more tracks totaling about 22 1/2 minutes to go.

      The Capitol Theatre, Sydney, Australia
11-27-80  Burning The Cross

The date on the artwork is incorrect. It has this as being played on 11-26-80 in New Castle Civic Theatre, Newcastle, Australia.

      Hammersmith Odeon (Hammy-O), London/Hammersmith, England
1-20-81  London '81

2CD AD EX-

CD1, track 6, during the drum solo at 4:09, the right channel cuts out a couple of times. This show came from an LP at some point. CD1, track 8, "Black Sabbath" is where you notice this the most due to there are a few pops and a minor skip within the first 90 seconds.

THE MOB RULES TOUR

Le Colisee (The Coliseum), Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
11-18-81     Coliseum Rock

2CD (UI) AD VG

This is the opening night of the tour. There is a quick zap right after the show starts.

      Hammersmith Odeon (Hammy-O), London/Hammersmith, England
12-31-81            Live At Hammersmith Odeon

1CD NI SB EX+

This show is an official release, but it was limited to 5,000 copies that were sold out right away, so naturally it is out of print, and thus tradeable.

Poplar Creek Music Theater, Hoffman Estates, Illinois
8-31-82                     Poplar Creek, Hoffman Estates, Il.   08/31/82

2CD AD VG

This was the final show of the "Mob Rules Tour". This show could arguably be a VG+. CD2, track 3, "Heaven And Hell", from 5:08 to 5:15 there isn't any music. It sounds to me like the 7 second gap is from taper error, because the music picks up on or at least very close to on beat, and not as if it was a gap for no reason. This was the last show of the tour with DIO, which also happens to be the last show he did with them until he rejoined them in 1992. The 2 bonus tracks are alternate takes or Demos from the Mob Rules Demo Sessions. They are "Falling Off The Edge Of The World" which I rate SB EX-. The other is "Over And Over Again", and I rate it SB EX-. If Ronnie's vocals hadn't been low in the mix, this last track would have gotten an EX.

      Johanneshovs Isstadion, Stockholm, Sweden
8-19-83  Bitch

2CD AD VG+

CD1, track 9 seems to have been recorded too high. The sound we hear is a cross between static, a radio channel not coming in perfectly and an LP. The last 2-4 seconds of "Iron Man" is cut short.

      Centrum in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts
11-4-83              Purple Sabbath - Definitive Edition

1CD FM EX

This show was brought to us by "Captured Live". It is about the 5th show on the "Born Again" Tour. Ian Gillian is lead vocalists. In My Opinion I think Ian Gillian did a great job with Ozzy's parts. He didn't try to copy Ozzy. He used his Deep Purple style vocals. An interesting note is that they did the song leads created a unique sounding one.

The Demos are with Ray Gillen. There are 5 live tracks with Tony Martin on vocals in 1986 and I rate them FM EX. These bonus tracks are all faded in and out with small gaps that I truly believe were mastered this way. 2 of the 5 bonus tracks are lower in volume, but the quality remains the same.

TYR TOUR

      Palasport, Bolzano, Italy
10-1-90  Dies Irae

2CD AD VG+

The lead singer Tony Martin says they are in Milano about a dozen times, but the "Black Sabbath Live Project" web site has this show as being performed in Bolzano, and has in the notes about it being mistakenly reported as a Milano show. The Milano show was on 10-3-90. CD1, track 5, "Headless Cross", from 2:44 - 2:45, the tape source speeds up. Then on the same track a few seconds later from 2:50 - 2:52, the tape souce slows way down. This show was taken from an LP at some point and has some spots where it was recorded too high and is distorted some, otherwise it might have gotten an EX- rating.

DEHUMANIZER TOUR

Canecao, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil
6-30-92   After All In Rio

2CD NI ?? EX-

This is a hard show to rate as far as if it is AD, SB, or FM. The "Black Sabbath Live Project" web site says this is AD & FM, but this is from one source. I doubt it is an SB recording, because Ronnie says what I would consider a bleepable word for the radio. This sounds to me like an AD recording when it comes to stereo seperation, but the audience is a liitle too quite. I think this may be an SB recording where the microphones were placed in front of the speakers, but not recorded in stereo or it was a direct feed from the soundboard in mono into 2 channels. There was some scratchy, low volmed nearly digital clicking on CD2 for maybe 15 seconds.

      Sunrise Musical Theater, Sunrise, Florida
7-24-92  Save The Elf

2CD AD EX-

This was the first show with Ronnie James Dio on vocals in America in 10 years. The music drops off to near nothing for a fraction of a second a couple of dozen times or so thoughout, and 1 increase of the same length. The final track of the show has a dozen or more of these alone although they do sound like they were recorded or transferred to CD-R this way.

      Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, Illinois
8-1-92       Unknown Title

2CD NI AD VG

Ronnie James Dio on vocals. There is alot of what sounds kinda like medium volumed digital skipping/clicking. CD1, track 10 from 00:59 - 1:08 there is blank space. CD1, track 11 around 00:25 it cuts in and out as well as back and forth between channels a couple of times. CD1, track 1 until track 2 and again on track 4, CD1 around 2:30 there are several digital clicks.
