The show "Saratoga Performing Arts Center", CD1, track 11, "Vital Signs", has Alex's guitar cut out on the stereo bounce back from side to side on one track. "Live In Saratoga" on CD1, track 1, "The Big Money", the volume goes from fine to speaker shreading loud. It literally brought me up off my chair! This lasts for 9 seconds and then for the next 10 seconds the volume is messed with. During "Ghost Rider" the microphone(s) are blocked as if a long line of people were walking by. The audience isn't that bad. I can pretty much ignore the consistant talking. CD2 seems to have a lot of phasing, but it sounds more like the microphone(s) aren't being held still. Can't blame the taper for having fun!! You must definitely play CD1, track 1, at a very low volume! The show "Saratoga Performing Arts Center" is the better of the two.

The very end of "The Temples Of Syrinx", and the very beginning of "Limelight" are missing due to an emergency change of batteries by the taper. Less than 15 seconds are missing total. (DAT Master)

The intro is missing on "A Welcome To Kings" (DAT Master), but "Reflected Light" (DAT Clone) has the intro. Right after the beginning of the show there are several loud cracks for a few seconds, of which I do not believe are from firecrackers. The next couple of minutes are rough as the taper is adjusting the settings. There is only one song in which the crowd's understandable need to whoo hoo is too much for me. With the other times it just adds to the feel of actually being there. Overall it isn't done that much, nor for long any time other than the one.

If you get a show from this date, here is some referrence information. Geddy announces Philadelphia/Philly with great enthusiam over and over, but mailing address wise this venue is in New Jersey. Geddy was correct in his saying Philly though. This venue is in an area called something like The Greater Metropolitan Philadelphia __________. Sadly, the beginning of this show the taper has problems getting things set up, and then someone knocks over his water bottle. While the taper goes to grab the water bottle, the sound becomes muffled for a minute or so is all. The first half of the show has phasing. (DAT Master)

The first 30 seconds or so of CD1 on "Hometown Victory" (DAT Clone) is rough. During the clapping between songs there is some reverberation due to the taper was clapping, but it is only during the cheering between songs and not too bad, nor does it last that long. Tough choice here for best of date. "Our Ceiling Unlimited", which is a Matrix mix from 2 (MD Master) sources is crisper than "Hometown Victory", but in my opinion it is a little too bright. "Hometown Victory" is a little tinny, but sounds nice still. If pressed, I would choose "Our Ceiling Unlimited".

In audio CD format, "A Dry Kind Of Humid" is a 2CD show. The first 4 minutes of "A Dry Kind Of Humid" (DAT Master) are a little rough, but is the better of the two. To me there isn't very much difference between these 2 titles quality wise. I think my choice is ever so slightly brighter is all. "Poking Around In Hell" is from a (DAT Master Clone).

"Gypsy Eye" claims this show is an SB, but there is NO way it is!!! The show is clear for the most part except for a little bit of crackling like noise at higher frequencies in the left channel, but not that of clipping. Too bad it was mastered this way. Could have received an easy EX-. Tracks 1-3, on CD1, and 8-10, on CD3, are from the AD only. Tracks 4, on CD1 to track 7, on CD3, is from an FM Scanner & AD. Tracks 8-10, on CD3, are from Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Irvine, California on 9-28-02, and I rate these 3 tracks EX-.

CD1, track 4, "New World Man", has a pop at 2:36. There is a lot of low to mid-volumed talking throughout. CD2, track 3, "La Villa Strangiato", the taper becomes engaged in a conversation with someone after they notice this is being taped. This lasts for a few minutes until right after Alex's comments during "La Villa Strangiato". CD2, tracks 9 & 10, are a soundcheck from what I would imagine is this night. This part was recorded from the parking lot, but luckily this show was at an outdoor venue, and the wind was being nice most of the time, so this part actually sounds rather decent.

8-4-02     A Ghostly Glow

There is alot of talking throughout this show. I cannot understand what they are saying most of the time, but the volume of the talking is noticeable. CD2, track 10, "La Villa Strangiato", about 3 minutes in, the taper gets noticed taping and gets drawn into a conversation for about 2 minutes. At this point all the words they say are understandable. There are a handfull of spots where the sound drops in and out for brief flashes. These are scattered and not one after another. (MD)

This show has the sound one gets when you speak directly into a fan, although not as bad. At the end of track 6, we loose a rather small amount of the next song due to a tape change. (Analog Master)

About half way through Set 1, a heavy wind kicks up and brings the quality down to G for awhile. The 2nd Set and the Encore are basically fine. During the 1st Set there are 2 areas during "Vital Signs", and 1 during "Natural Science", where there are very small amounts of music missing. (MD Master)

"There is a fair amount of static, especially in the second set and especially during the drum solo. Although I have seen a few bad comments from other traders about this version of this show, one must really be sensative to notice why they put them. My stereo doesn't sound that great, but my headphones are pretty good sounding, and listening to this show on both of them the sound quality is really great as my rating indicates. I can hear the over loudness of the mastering or the original recording itself, but if you think the officially released CD called "Vapor Trails" sounded good, you will like this version of this show as well.

PRODUCERS COMMENTS:
"Here is a monitor mix (mono) from the Vapor Trails tour. Monitor mixes are sent wirelessly to each band member, who listen through an earpiece. It's not clear to me if the source is directly from the soundboard or if it was intercepted by a scanner, but my best guess is the latter. While the sound is mono (indicative of scanners), the sound is consistently clear and fuller than I'd expect from a scanner source. Regardless, this is an absolutely superb recording of Rush on their Vapor Trails tour. The original source has been remastered and the new sound is very clear with nice depth and punch. While the low end isn't nearly as bottomless as "Rio" you can hear every detail here (including Geddy's impromtu cough in the first verse of "Limelight"). One of the nice things about this show is the band were playing their "B" setlist, which included "Between Sun And Moon", "Vital Signs", "Ceiling Unlimited" and the Monty Python break at end of "Big Money" (instead of The Simpsons). If you're looking for a great sounding show from this tour, definitely check this out!"

"(29th row, Center).? Well, it was not only my first live Rush show, but also my first experience to use DAT recorder. So I don't know the standard recording level to tape Rush show, I handled the recording volume knob sometimes, not only in the beginning of 1st set but also in 2nd set. This made instability in recording level. Also, this time I used 44.1KHz mode to record. And this recording does not have about the half of Tom Sawyer because we sat on our seat at 7:55, only 5 minutes before the show started! The actual hall sound was not clear in bass sound. I felt sound circulation and then this recording also has that. And there is a major flaw on the end of The Big Money. Well, that time a security person asked the seat number to me so I had to hide the mic!! I'm sorry." (DAT Master)

"(26th row, Ged's side) The hall sound of this night was INCREDIBLE. Almost no sound circulation and all sounds' edge were really sharp. And we traveled Japan>Montreal>Quebec City>Toronto only in 5 days, the tire reached to the top, so not only we did not sing but also did not scream. And the Toronto audience is VERY quiet during the boys are playing. Consequently, the recording made excellent, still a bit instable in volume during the first several songs and does not have almost of Three Stooges Intro, though. Then, on the top 1st disc has pre-show announcement by the radio DJ in Toronto (not complete)." (DAT Master)

This whole show is a lower EX. I cannot figure it out, but something is missing that could have turned this show into an EX+. The taper and his friends talk a good portion of CD1 and throughout, which did get annoying, but mostly on CD1. I still recommend this show. (DAT Master)

CD2, track 1, around 3:30, there is a moment of missing music, and again same CD, except on track 11, around 1:30. This happens again on the last track. There is a small skip around 00:30 & 00:45, on CD3, track 2.

This show was recorded at very high levels thus creating a fuzzy sound throughout. It's not bad on the phasing up until the final track on CD2. All this taking into account that this was recorded in a huge outdoor soccer stadium. The phasing happens 2/3rds of the way through the show.
